LED Lighting

LED lighting makes an immediate and long term reduction in your power usage. LED lighting is brighter, more even, renders colours more accurately, runs cooler, won't flicker and contains nothing that will harm the environment.

Three schools have so far been converted:

Epuni Primary School in Lower Hutt has been converted entirely over to LED lighting. This was done as a trial with help from Ecopoint and the Ministry of Education. The LED lamps have reduced their lighting costs by 81%. A big part of the savings was replacing the outside flood lamps with LED units and movement sensors, which is something many schools in NZ should look at. I estimate Epuni will now save around $1,800 a year on their power bills. Click here for Epuni LED Lighting report.

Gracefield School in Lower Hutt has converted their whole school over to LED lighting. This is not only in their classrooms, but office areas and even the flood-lighting outside. This was done as a trial with help from Ecopoint and the Ministry of Education. The LED lamps have reduced their lighting costs by 68%. For Gracefield, that means a saving of over $3,500.00 every year - money they can spend on more important things! Click here to view Gracefield LED Lighting Report.

Maungaraki School, in Lower Hutt, used Eco Efficient Lighting to convert all their fluorescent tubes over to LEDs. This showed an immediate reduction in power use throughout the school, saving around $180 compared to the previous month.  Eco Efficient Lighting also fitted LED downlights throughout the staffroom, which was included in the cost. Maungaraki School signed a three year agreement to pay back the LEDs over that period. In the agreement, Maungaraki School pay $267.00 per month.
